Nuts

Always avoid giving your dog nuts. Different types can cause a wide range of symptoms and reactions that could be fatal for your dog. Pecan nuts, Brazil nuts, walnuts, and macadamia nuts are all particularly harmful. 

Unripe tomatoes

Unripe tomatoes can be dangerous for your dog. Tomatine, which is a compound found in tomatoes, can cause damage to the nervous systems, kidneys, and digestive tract. If you grow your own tomatoes, ensure that your pet has a safe distance from them.

Avocados

It is best to not give any of the flesh to your dog. They can cause respiratory problems, nausea, and diarrhea.

Pips, seeds and stones

The seeds, pips and stones of fruits like apples, cherries, plums and peaches can be very dangerous for your dog. contain cyanide, which can be very harmful for your dog and even fatal.

Mushrooms

Wild mushrooms are not poisonous, but they can be used in cooking. They are also a common food that dogs will seek out while on walks. The symptoms vary depending on the mushroom, but they include diarrhea, vomiting and restlessness. If your dog is acting strangely or suspecting that they have eaten wild mushrooms, take them to the vet.

Rhubarb

Rhubarb, another common home-grown fruit that can be toxic for dogs, can also cause damage to the nervous and kidney systems. You may experience seizures, tremors and heart problems. Don’t allow your dog to get into the rhubarb crumbles or vegetable patches.

Grapes and raisins

A small amount of this little fruit can cause irreversible kidney damage or failure very quickly depending on how large the dog who ingests it. You should immediately take your dog to the vet if they eat it or suspect that they are.

Potatoes

The potato plants are the only thing to be concerned about. Solanine, which is found in potato plants, can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and confusion. It can also be dangerous for your dog.

Persimmon seeds

Although not very common in the UK the persimmon is an exotic orange fruit we sometimes find in our supermarkets. The seeds can be very dangerous to dogs and can cause diarrhea.

Onions and garlic

Garlic can be beneficial for dogs if eaten in the right quantities. However, too much garlic, onions, and chives can cause serious health problems and even lead to death. You can’t give your dog raw garlic, dried or cooked.

Nutmeg

It’s not something you should have lying around in large quantities, but it is something you need to be aware of. Dogs can experience seizures, tremors and even death from nutmeg so make sure they don’t have any.

Broccoli

Broccoli has many health benefits, but it is not good for man’s best friend. Even though it may not seem like a problem, it can cause stomach irritation in some breeds.
